Punk Clothing

From raw street scenes to high fashion runways, we cover all clothes you ever wanted.

Punk clothing is a way to make a compelling statement in the sub-culture. Hence, it is important for punks to pick the right clothes to rule.

It is unlike gothic clothing, which is worn for self-expression, punk outfits are more like gears to show offensive, appalling and disobedient statement. Anyway, they are both the popular clothes in Harajuku fashion, and share a couple of similarities. Part of them are inspired by BDSM and also the Deathrock and Horror punks wear garments similar to gothic clothes where black is the major shade.

There are too many links in between sub-cultures thus we will not go further into that. Basically, most of the late and contemporary fashions are to make change and show creative ideas as reflected in Volcom clothing and the everlasting slogan ‘It’s Youth Against Establishment’. After all, fashion is volatile and ever-changing. Let’s look at the 5 most popular punk wear habits.

5 Punk Clothing Stifling Styles

There are actually more than just five, probably about eight to ten or more than that, but we will just focus on the most commonly practiced by the cults.

  • Standard punk style encompasses leather, spikes, combat boots, chains as well as the basic elements reflected in the early fashion like bondage pants, torn clothing and kutten vests. They love DIY (do it yourself) to create one-of-a-kind garments hence often ripped or stitched together t-shirts and pants. Another personality is reflected in the vivid and perverted colors. Mohawk and liberty spikes are the hairstyles most would go for.
  • Crust Punk is 360 degrees different from the previous style. It is known as the tremendous development of the conventional fashion. Ripped hoodies, t-shirts, black or camouflage pants painted in patches, bullet belts and accessories made from hemp are some of the characteristic found in crust punk clothing. Lastly, clothes mostly unwashed and kept dirty as a way to show rebellion and anti-convention.
  • We mentioned about Horror and Deathrock punk earlier, which is sometimes known as gothic rock and that is the reason you find similarities in what the goths wear. This style brings in a sexier image with the use of fishnets, corsets and detailed make-up for both male and female. Horror and occult images are often seen on the prints of clothing and accessories. Besides, the initials D and R ( Death Rock ) along with others which show cities like C and A ( California ), N and Y ( New York), are often integrated in a crossbone logo.
  • Another punk clothing fashion is practiced by the skateboarders, who are thus being known as skate punk. They listen to punk rock and often wear plaid button-down shirts or band t-shirts matched with baggy jeans or pants. They do not wear camouflage hoodies like that of Bape clothing, but they love hoodies covered in patches and scatter painted graphics. You can easily spot big skateboard brand names like DC Shoes, Blac Label and Manik Skateboards as well as the tattoo inspired Ed Hardy clothing worn by skate punk.
  • Pop punk is sometimes known as the breed of skate punk style and emo fashion. Thus the clothes reflect the characteristic in skate punk and emo clothing. Modern fans of this sub-culture love to put on band t-shirts embellished with a tie or scarf, tight skinny jeans or pants with studded belts as well as blazers. Skateboarder shoes by Vans is one of the most favored shoes.

Punk Clothing Stores

As a matter of fact, punk wear encompasses a wide variety of styles which crossover with other sub-cultural groups at times. For example, gothic punk is the combination of styles between two subcultures.
